A week away from her due date, actress Molly Sims arrived at the Step Up Women’s Network 9th Annual Inspiration Awards to show her support for an organization that she says is, “one of the best things I have been involved with in the past year.”

Sims, who has participated in monthly after school visits, says the program has been rewarding in many ways. “I have to say just the girls’ ambition and curiosity, and wanting a mentor, and wanting someone to look up to, has honestly made me feel better about myself than I maybe have helped them!” She adds that having a mentor is important and has helped shape her entire life. “I really believe in girlfriends, moms, girlfriends, sisters. Honestly anyone you can look up to and, most importantly, trust.”

Joining Sims on the star-studded red carpet was actress Busy Philipps who says the best tip she could give the Step Up teens would be to remember that there’s something better past high school. “This is not the be all end all. If you work hard then you can accomplish anything. I think if teens and especially young women who are struggling, or are in bad situations, can keep their eye on something they can work towards, then that’s what helps motivate you to keep chugging away at the teen years–which are brutal.” She too adds that having a wonderful mentor can help you achieve your goals in life. “My mother was an incredible role model and mentor, and always said to me, from Shakespeare, ‘This above all: To thine own self be true.’ She would always say that to me.” Even when, Philipps says, her teachers in school ridiculed her goal to be an actress, her mother continually encouraged her. “My mother always said not to listen to them. Follow your dreams and follow your heart, the rest will fall into place.”
