Gratitude. That was the overwhelming sense felt at the Step Up Women’s Network 9th annual Inspiration Awards. Celebrities, honorees, and supporters walked the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and shared their love of an organization that brings women together to help each other in life and career.
“I think anyone who has reached any kind of success in her career [knows] that doesn’t happen unless you have mentors. From my mother to my grandmother, to my teachers, to actors and actresses I’ve worked with, I have a lot to be thankful for from a lot of people,” said actress Tatyana Ali, who volunteered on the event’s host committee.
The luncheon began with a welcome message from model and actress Molly Sims who showed her support despite being just a week away from her pregnancy due date, saying, “[Step Up is] one of the best things I have been involved with in the past year.”
Step Up Founder Kaye Popofsky Kramer joined her on stage to thank everyone for joining in on the event and continuing their support. The two then presented Step Up teens Kalen and Lulu their scholarships, and the girls thanked the crowd for believing in them.
“These women need to be inspired and show that their dreams are possible and achievable,” said actress Naturi Naughton of the program. “That inspires me.”
The day continued with a presentation of the Step Up class of 2013, presented by Lifetime Television and CEO Jenni Luke, who said, “When our professional women members and our girls connect, they’re really able to cross generations, share their stories, and inspire one another.” She also shared her appreciation for everyone who gave their time and love and thanked Popofsky Kramer for “being a part of it for all of these years.” She, of course, also didn’t hesitate to thank the people who continue to keep the organization running: “The board of directors has worked so hard to make the event happen and the team-our staff-has just flawlessly executed a great event again.”
The luncheon wrapped with awards presented to the corporate honoree Neutrogena, which was accepted by General Manager Susan C. Sweet; honoree Camila Alves, who accepted her award presented by actress Busy Philipps via video; and honoree Keli Lee, who accepted her award from presenter actress Eva Longoria.
It was a beautiful day filled with love and joy by all who attended. From the Step Up teens to the organization’s supporters, everyone ended their day feeling enriched and inspired.
